A sports movie include the discovery of innate talent, sacrifices of family, sweety training etc. When he/she thinks himself humiliating, failures then the triumphant victory comes like Mary Kom, Bhang Milkha Bhang, Dangal………...the list is long. Saina does not vary from the formula.


The film is on Saina Nehwal, daughter of Usha and Harvir Singh Nehwal, a Haryanvi couple from Hyderabad who created history became the world's number one player and won over 24 individual titles including a bronze medal in Olympics.

Writer-director Amole Gupte not only shows her ups and downs but also bugs in woman empowerment.

Saina's fire and grit are credited to her mother Usha. Usha's iron hand is just like Mahavir Singh Phogat in Dangal.

When Saina gives her a silver medal, Usha rewards her with a resounding slap in public, she chastises her for losing the Gold.

Saina woke up at 3:00 am to be at training at 5:00 am, ever want a day off. The first half, devoted to Saina's features training and matches in succession.

The drama picks up in the second half and her career falters. Then she went to her coach Rajan. This relationship throws up conflict and emotion. Saina's love interest in Kashyap moulded on her husband Parupalli Kashyap.

The Music by Anmal Malik and lyrics by Monaj Mutashir and Kunal Verma create something different.

The weight of the film rests on Parineeti Chopra's shoulder her eyes find the fire of Saina's Journey. Saina's shining with sincerity and hard work has been missed at some crucial point.
